Who Are the Key Players in Bangladesh’s 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Team?

Bangladesh has revealed their team for the forthcoming 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, which will take place in India and Sri Lanka.

Nigar Sultana Joty, who captained Bangladesh during their inaugural Women’s Cricket World Cup appearance in 2022, will continue to lead the team.In addition, wicket-keeper-batter Rubya Haider, who has played six T20Is for Bangladesh, receives her first ODI call-up for this prestigious tournament.

Bangladesh squad: Nigar Sultana Joty (C), Nahida Akter, Farzana Haque, Rubya Haider Jhelik, Sharmin Akter Supta, Sobhana Mostary, Ritu Moni, Shorna Akter, Fahima Khatun, Rabeya Khan, Marufa Akter, Fariha Islam Trisna, Shanjida Akther Maghla, Nishita Akter Nishi, Sumaiya Akter.

Other significant members of the squad include Nishita Akter Nishi and Sumaiya Akter, both of whom represented Bangladesh at the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year.

Sumaiya, who captained the team during the tournament in Malaysia, made her ODI debut against Australia in March of the previous year. On the other hand, Nishita, the youngest member of the Bangladesh squad, has participated in two ODIs, having debuted against Pakistan in 2023.

“Nishita is still quite young, yet she demonstrates remarkable maturity in her bowling,” stated Sazzad Ahmed Mansur, the chief selector of the BCB Women’s Wing.

“Her consistency, composure under pressure, and her skill in managing left-handed batsmen provide her with a significant advantage. We are confident that this experience will benefit her greatly and enhance the depth of our spin attack.

“Sumaiya has been persistently making her case for selection. She possesses the capability to stay at the crease and accelerate the scoring when necessary. With her skill set and high fielding standards, she offers us a versatile option in the top order.”

Bangladesh is set to commence their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 journey against Pakistan on October 2 in Colombo. Both teams secured their spots in the eight-team tournament by finishing in the top two at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier earlier this year.

The team, led by Nigar Sultana Joty, will also compete against South Africa and Sri Lanka in their warm-up matches for the Cricket World Cup on September 25 and 27, respectively.
