India’s Paralympic Champion Pramod Bhagat won two gold medals at the Yonex Australian Para Badminton International 2025 in Melbourne (October 21–25), keeping India at the top in para-badminton.
Pramod Bhagat’s Victories
Pramod Bhagat shone at the tournament, winning gold in both men’s singles (SL3) and men’s doubles (SL3–SL4).
Men’s Singles (SL3):
He beat fellow Indian Manoj Sarkar 21–15, 21–17. It was a tough match, with Sarkar challenging him at every point, but Bhagat’s smart play and consistency helped him win. After the match, Bhagat said, ‘Playing against Manoj is always tough because we know each other’s game so well.’
Men’s Doubles (SL3–SL4):
Teaming up with Sukant Kadam, Bhagat claimed his second gold by defeating Umesh Vikram Kumar and Surya Kant Yadav 21–11, 19–21, 21–18. The match went to three games, with Kadam and Bhagat starting strong, facing a comeback from their opponents, and finally taking control in the last game.
Pramod Overall Performance
India was the standout nation at the tournament, winning medals across many categories.
- Sukant Kadam: Won gold in men’s doubles (SL3–SL4) with Pramod Bhagat and took silver in singles (SL4) after a close match against Surya Kant Yadav (23–21, 14–21, 21–19).
- Manasi Joshi: Claimed two golds — in women’s singles (SL3) and mixed doubles (SL3–SU5) with Ruthick Ragupathi.
- Ruthick Ragupathi and Chirag Baretha: Secured gold in men’s doubles (SU5).
- Sivarajan Solaimalai and Sudarshan Muthuswamy: Won gold and silver in men’s doubles (SH6).
- Sarumathi: Triumphed in women’s singles (SL4+SU5), beating Australia’s Zashka Gunson.
India’s strong performance at the tournament showed once again that it is becoming a powerhouse in international para-badminton. With six countries taking part, the finals were full of tough competition and great sportsmanship. Pramod Bhagat’s two golds add to his outstanding 2025 season, which already included three golds at the Abia Para Badminton International in Nigeria.
