India’s Test Vice-captain and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant announced a significant alteration in the batting order before the first Test against England at Headingly, Leeds, starting Friday, June 20, 2025.
Subham Gill will play in the number 4 place which is vacated by former captain and India’s fourth-highest run-getter in Test cricket, Virat Kohli.
Pant also stated that India is still considering who will take the No. 3 position, which was last held by Gill, the new captain following Rohit Sharma’s retirement.
Indian Cricket Karun Nair is expected to return to Test Cricket after almost eight years, but Nair experienced a slight injury during practice on Wednesday at Headingley, Leeds. It has happened just two days before the start of the first Test of the five-match series between India and England.
