India Spinner Deepti Sharma is Closed to Top Ranking for T20I Bowlers

Himanjali

India’s spinner Deepti Sharma is on the verge of gaining the No.1 spot among bowlers in T20I cricket, as she is now just eight rating points away from the top position in the latest ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings.

For most of the past 6 years, Deepti has been a fixture in the 10 rankings for T20I bowlers. However, the 27-year-old has yet to reach the top rank, even though she has shown remarkable consistency lately.

The most recent update to the T20I rankings has allowed Deepti to move up one position, surpassing Australia’s Annabel Sutherland to reclaim the second spot. She is now only eight rating points away from Pakistan’s Sadia Iqbal, who holds the top position in the rankings.

Deepti’s ascent is attributed to her impressive three-wicket haul in the third match of India’s five match T20I series against England. If she continues to perform strongly in the last two matches of the series, she could potentially take the top spot from her rival in Pakistan.

Teammate Arundhati Reddy is making strides as well, with the seamer climbing 11 positions to reach a tie for 43rd place among T20I bowlers after her impressive three-wicket haul in the latest match of the series against England at the Oval.

Additionally, several England bowlers saw improvements following their narrow five-run victory at the famous London Venue. Pacers Issy Wong and Laurer Filer were the most significant movers, while fellow fast bowler Lauren Bell held steady in fourth place on the rankings.

Australia’s Beth Mooney continues to hold a slim lead at the top of T20I batter rankings, although there have been some shifts just outside the top 10 due to impressive performances from players in England and India during their current series.

Indian star Jemimah Rodrigues climbs two sports to reach 12th overall after scoring a half-century in the second match of the series in Bristol. Meanwhile, an opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sophia Dunkley emerges as the standout performers for England after their excellent partnership at the Oval.
