India is initiating a countdown of 50 days to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which will showcase legends, stars, and the commencement of the Trophy Tour in Mumbai.
In Mumbai, Indian legends Mithali Raj and Yuvraj Singh were present alongside current stars Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah Rodrigues for the ‘50 days to go’ event, building excitement for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
This upcoming 50-over World Cup marks the return of a senior ICC Women’s tournament to the sub-continent for the first time since 2016, when India hosted the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
India has hosted the Women’s World Cup in the years 1978, 1997, and 2013.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah officially opened the event prior to the panel discussions featuring both current and former stars of Indian cricket, alongside ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta.
During his address, Mr. Shah remarked: “The return of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 to India represents a pivotal moment for women’s cricket, establishing the foundation for an exceptional tournament that will enhance the sport’s international prominence.
At the ICC, we are receptive to innovative concepts and are perpetually seeking methods to maintain the positive trajectory of women’s cricket. Discussions such as today’s panel are crucial in forming our shared vision and advancing progress.
With only 50 days remaining until the commencement of the tournament, preparations are in full swing, and enthusiasm is mounting. I wish all participating teams the very best as they prepare for the challenge ahead. I am assured that they will have a memorable experience in India and Sri Lanka.
The occasion also signified the formal inauguration of the ICC Trophy Tour, which commenced in Mumbai and will journey to all the host cities of the tournament, including Delhi. In conjunction with a broader school legacy initiative, the Trophy Tour is set to visit numerous schools in each host city, with the BCCI and ICC collaborating with various stakeholders to provide certain schools the opportunity to attend World Cup matches.
